Ann Thornton studied Art at Sunderland Art College (Dip Art & Design) specialising in Ceramics and Fine Art, and Newcastle University BA, PGCE. Ann’s life has been immersed in ‘the arts’ as the daughter of the celebrated artist Norman Cornish MBE.
Ann was Head of the Visual Arts Department at Tudhoe Grange Secondary School from 1986 to 2004 where she inspired many students to pursue careers in art and related cultural and creative activities.
Ann’s talent as an artist is grounded in her ability to draw and paint with a high level of skill and in considerable detail in portraiture, caricature and pictorial representation in varying mediums. Ann’s work has also developed as an illustrator of children’s stories and a new publication ‘What Weasel Did’ will be launched during the exhibition.
In recent years she has developed her interest in natural structural forms from close observation of the countryside.
Previous exhibitions have been held in Carlisle, Crawcrook, The Mortall Gallery and The Witham in Barnard Castle, The Greenfield Gallery in Newton Aycliffe and Come View My Art Gallery in Gateshead.
